The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) today confirms the appointment of Niall Byrne as the new Director of the organisation. Mr. Byrne begins his new role today, 24th January and joins the RTB after spending the last five years as Registrar and Chief Officer of the Pharmacy Regulator, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI).
Mr. Byrne has an extensive background in regulatory affairs, organisational development and corporate governance. He holds third-level qualifications in public administration, governance, and ethics.
Prior to his role with the PSI, Mr. Byrne held the positions of Head of State Boards and Corporate Services with the Public Appointments Service and Deputy Director of Regulation at the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA). During his time at HIQA, he was responsible for the regulation of residential services for older people and for adults with disabilities.
Chairperson of the Residential Tenancies Board, Tom Dunne said: “I would like to take this moment, on behalf of the whole organisation, to welcome Mr. Byrne to the RTB at a crucially important time. Niall is a highly respected expert in regulation who will play a key role in addressing highly complex issues in the rental sector in years to come.”
“I also want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the dedication and service of Pádraig McGoldrick who has served as Interim Director over the last two years, in particular for his careful stewardship of the RTB through the many challenges presented by the pandemic. While it must be acknowledged that this is a challenging time for the sector, thanks to the effort of Pádraig, the Executive and staff, Niall will also be joining the organisation at a time of growth and opportunity. I wish Niall well in his new role and look forward to working with him and all the RTB staff in 2022.”
