Tuesday, 13 October 2020: The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) welcomes a €2M increase in funding announced by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O'Brien TD today under Budget 2021.

The budget allocated will help support the RTB’s Dispute Resolution Service, which has faced an increase in demand arising from the economic effects of Covid-19 on the rental sector.

The additional funds will also support activity in the investigations and sanctions area, which enables the RTB to proactively monitor and investigate certain breaches of rental law by a landlord.

Chairperson of the Residential Tenancies Board, Tom Dunne said:

“We welcome today’s announcement which allocates additional funding for the RTB. The increase in budget is a recognition of the RTB’s important work supporting the rental sector.

At the RTB’s core is delivering services on a daily basis that meet the needs of both tenants and landlords and that assist them in this ever more challenging and uncertain environment.

The additional funding for local authority inspections also recognises the importance of regulating minimum standards for the rental sector and ensuring good quality rental accommodation in the sector.

The RTB will continue its work to help support the development of a well-functioning sector that is fair, accessible and beneficial for all."
